Square-ended parallel key, tapped — From tangential force

Use this when the force on the key is known. From the width, the key length, the tapped-hole diameter, and the shear force it finds the area in shear and the shear stress. The shaft diameter and the torque are not needed. A square-ended parallel key keeps its square ends, so the key length is the effective length.
