- Based on Eq. (5.1), , in 5.1(1) of the AIJ Standard for Allowable Stress Design of Steel Structures (2019).
- This allowable stress applies to the effective sectional area. 5.1(1) of the same Standard says "for the effective sectional area defined in 13.1". Applying it to the gross area, without deducting bolt holes and the like, errs on the unsafe side.
- The short-term value is 50 % above the long-term one (5.6 of the same Standard).
- Where the Standard writes "stress intensity", this page writes simply "stress".
